The operational performance by a specific configuration of an aircraft in terms of the parameters empty weight, payload, fuel weight, design speed, and design range is presented in a nomograph that allows the effects of trade-offs between these parameters to be analyzed. Nomographs developed for different aircraft that are in design competition show feasible configurations and their relative performance capabilities in a common operational environment. The nomographs are based on aircraft design-point studies and effect interpolation between these design configurations. This graphic presentation of aircraft performance capability is based on a modification of the Breguet range equation to incorporate variation in design flight speed. Operational parameters that are functions of both aircraft configuration and range, speed, or weight-such as cost, survivability, and takeoff distance-may also be displayed on the nomograph. (Author)
