The modifications will alter the existing Freeport Harbor, by easing a channel bend near the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and Brazosport turning basin and increasing the size of the vessel maneuvering area at the mouth of Brazos Harbor Channel. Work will be accomplished by hydraulic pipeline dredge with dredged material deposited in leveed land disposal areas. Effluent from the disposal areas will be discharged through controlled spillways into nearby waterways. The modifications will relieve hazardous navigation conditions now affecting traffic on the waterway and will reduce the possibilities of accidents to vessels carrying, loading, or unloading large volumes of hazardous or toxic materials.
