An investigation of the hydrodynamic qualities of a hypothetical flying boat with a hull having a length-beam ratio of l5 was made in Langley tank no. 1. The flying boat has a design gross weight of 75,000 pounds, a gross load coefficient of 5.88, a wing loading of 41.1 pounds per square foot, and a power loading of ll.5 pounds per brake horsepower for takeoff. The hull was designed to meet advanced requirements for increased speed and increased range for flying-boat designs and has been shown to have low drag in the Langley 300 MPH 7 by 10-foot tunnel.
