A limited practical study of an experimental torpedo propulsed by a hybrid rocket engine has been conducted within the framework of submarine defense studies at the National Defence Research Establishment (FOA). The tests were done with the torpedo supported by a tightened wire at the depth of 10 m. The purpose of the tests was to study rocket propulsion at diffeent speeds, measure the sound from the engine and to see if any track is generated at the water surface from the torpedo. The principle of underwater hybrid rocket propulsion is discussed in a 1990 distributed FOA-report on 'Torpedo Rocket Propulsion'.
