The aim of the survey was to investigate existing and future possibilities to model the effects of transport telematics on the demand and on the traffic process itself. The survey was carried out using literature databases, conferences, personal contacts and by contacting model developers directly by mail. In spite of the intensive research in the area, applicable models do not yet fully meet the demands related to transport telematics evaluation. The conclusions drawn from the survey is therefore different with respect to the short run (applications up to 1998) and the long run. Concerning the short run, the conclusion is that the previously used demand model FREDRIK should be amended by the incorporation of a departure time model and a parking model, that the previously used assignment model EMME/2 should be linked to a more dynamic route choice model (such as CONTRAM or AIMSUN2), and the expert judgement model for accidents in the TOSCA project should be further developed and linked to the output from microsimulation models. For the long run, the conclusion is that different modelling approaches should be tested. Examples of these are the AMOS demand model, the mesomodel DYNASMART, the micromodel Integration, the dynamic macro model METANET and the traffic simulator AUTOBAHN SIMULATOR. Also the results of the research projects TRANSIMS, DRACULA should be considered.
