Learning how to debrief maritime armed forces is difficult. The initial obstacle to overcome is comparable to learn how to dance by reading books. Since conducting debriefing is considered to be an art, the most preferable way to learn is by doing it. This report is focused on fundamental principles of how to conduct a so called Historical Event Reconstruction Debriefing (HERD). HERD may be described as an interview, which is performed after a concluded action. In this case the main aim of conducting a HERD is to improve the effect of the maritime armed forces by synthesis and taking care of the achieved experiences. Furthermore, advised what to considered before, during and after conducting an interview is included. This report describes debriefing from a general point of view but is somewhat focused on maritime armed forces.
