The airborne sand, featurelesss terrain, and southwest Asia present aviators with a hazardous environment for night vision goggle operations. A research project was directed by the U.S. Army Safety Center was conducted in Southwest Asia during the period 1-30 December 1990. The primary purpose of the project was to determine maximum airspeeds, optimum altitudes, and auxiliary aircraft lighting for safer NVG operations under the full spectrum of illumination levels for terrains.
