The major Earth observation activities carried out by ESA are outlined. The role of space technology in providing a better understanding of the forces that shape the Earth's environment is stressed. The Meteosat program is summarized. The ERS satellite missions are discussed. The polar orbit Earth observation mission is described. The contributions these various missions have made to better understanding environmental factors are outlined. The Applications and Research Involving Space Techniques for the Observation of The Earth's fields from Low Earth orbit Spacecraft (Aristoteles) mission is discussed.
