The city of Philadelphia plans to construct a rapid rail system between Suburban Station/Penn Center, and the passenger terminal at the Philadelphia International Airport. This Airport High Speed Line will be approximately 9.4 miles long and much of the alignment will be using the existing Penn Central Railroad and Reading Railroad trackage or rights of way. Some tunneling will be done as well as some grade cutting will be necessary to depress the new tracks. There will be aerial structure necessary to cross over the complexes of road network such as the I-95, relocated Industrial Expressway, relocated Bartram Avenue and the proposed enplaning road to the airport. Beneficial and adverse environmental impacts are discussed.
