An evaluation has been made of the results obtained from the U.S. Family Sedan Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESV) Project. The topical framework for the evaluation includes: (1) General vehicle design; (2) technology for accident avoidance; (3) technology for crash energy management; (4) technology for post-crash safety; and (5) nonoperating safety. It is concluded that, in general, the Family Sedan ESV Project approached or met its demanding basic objectives.
