Various methods for launch and recovery of remotely piloted vehicles (RPVs) from the decks of Naval ships were investigated. Eight RPV designs were developed to evaluate launch and recovery concepts from three classes of ships; the aircraft carrier, the sea control ship, and the ocean escort. Two basic RPV missions were assumed for the study: A 500-nautical-mile, high-low-high altitude, high subsonic penetration mission; and a medium-high altitude 14-hour endurance surveillance mission.
