The measuring systems (MUDAS) on the test aircraft DO 228, part of an avionics flight evaluation system for testing navigation systems, are described. A digital navigation computer on the aircraft calculates the position and velocity with high accuracy based on the data of an inertial navigation system (INS), a laser tracker, and a tracking radar. The accuracy of the unaided INS (a laser gyro strapdown navigation system) is described, as well as the time delay of the INS data transmission. Using the INS data, the flight dynamics of the DO 228 were investigated.
