A technique for mobile robot navigation using a wide angle lens to capture images from specified targets in a hemispherical field of view has been investigated. The basic algorithms for an omnidirectional vision controller were previously developed, but were limited to 30 frame/second update rates. The present research concentrated on methods for increasing the speed to 300 frames/second, which would allow the method to be used for the autonomous control of higher speed vehicles. A theoretical solution has been found using a high speed camera, a target tracker, and other special processors.
