The state-of the-art in communications technology offers opportunities for a substantial reduction in total FAA communications recurring costs together with a significant improvement in overall communications operational flexibility, reliability and service. An integrated national system, which provides both voice and data communications for all FAA operational facilities and the attendant ATC support functions, can save an estimated 100 million dollars per year in the FAA annual communications budget.
