The proposed project would involve multi-lane widening of an approximately 41.8 mile section of U. S. Route 17. Widening would be accomplished by constructing a second roadbed for two lanes of travel parallel to the existing two lane roadway. Summary of environmental impacts: improved traffic service, displacement of homes and businesses, temporary effects from construction, encroachment on Buck Hall Recreation Area, bridge construction across the North and South Santee Rivers and some marshland construction.
