This training module was prepared for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The module describes the Collision Deformation Classification (CDC) system which is used in the National Accident Sampling System (NASS) and other accident data collection programs to describe direct contact damage sustained by light trucks and automobiles. Primary emphasis is placed on providing field personnel with additional information and coding directives which, in turn, result in more uniform and precise application of the CDC. Approximately twenty-four study hours are required to complete the module.
