The concept of dissociation is discussed with reference to the classification of drivers and as a contributory or even casual factor in traffic accidents. Examples of actual behavior are given where drivers showing dissociative patterns of behavior have carried out unnecessary maneuvers, taken risks and had near-accidents. Possible future lines of research in this area are indicated. (Author)
