The paper is primarily concerned with the hydrodynamic design of two initial towed bodies, MOBY I and MOBY II, intended as versatile experimental tools for the program. It outlines the design philosophy, the selection of quantitative design objectives and the procedures adopted. The resulting designs are described and their steady-state performance predicted. Considerations leading to the design of MOBY III and MOBY IV are also discussed. These bodies are variants of MOBY II intended for short-term development. (Author)
