A teleoperation system for the Robotics Technology Experiment proposed for the Spacelab D-2 mission is presented. The principal architecture of such a system consisting of a TV system, and an on-board and a ground teleoperation work station is described. The TV system supports teleoperation as visual feedback by providing a stereo image of the manipulator arm activities within the work cell. Advanced sensor balls are applied as a 6 degree-of-freedom controller for the human operator on board and on ground. A major element of the ground teleoperation station is a 3D graphics system in order to display the actual joint configuration of the robot and to simulate the robot motion without the inherent transmission delay times.
