The briefing report presents information on the status of the Department of Energy (DOE) program, which was begun in October 1984 to introduce methanol vehicles into the civilian federal fleet. Specifically, the report discusses why other federal agencies have not participated in the program, DOE's experience in acquiring and operating demonstration fleets, coordination between the DOE and DOD programs, and a recent initiative to acquire flexible-fueled vehicles that can operate on gasoline, methanol, or a combination of both fuels.
