The intent of this report is to provide guidance for the fabrication of a bus seat from long fiber thermoplastic composite materials using traditional compression molding methods. The report provides insight based upon experience from design and fabrication issues inherent to the transit bus industry. The scope of the bus seat study was limited to a common two-person seat that could be cantilever or post mounted. No upholstery was considered for this application. Results of stress analysis and mold filling characteristics are presented. The primary goals for the seat design were to reduce weight and cost using a commercial long fiber thermoplastic composite fabrication technique.
