Modern combat aircraft are very complex systems performing activities in complex environments. There is a need for better tools for planning of activities and evaluation of software modules and tactical knowledge in these kind of systems. An attempt to use knowledge-based planning techniques to improve performance in air combat applications is discussed. Techniques to structure and control the execution of activities, performed by the pilot or by the subsystems in the aircraft, as plans and actions have been developed. The design of these methods is a step towards an evaluation tool for air combat applications or for other complex domains, where system performance together with tactical knowledge is essential for the system design.
