Waterborne fast dry traffic paint and the Mississippi State Highway Department (MSHD) standard fast dry traffic paint (solvent base) were compared at four different highway locations. One location was on concrete pavement, two locations were on asphalt pavement, and one location was on double bituminous surface treatment (DBST). The Average Daily Traffic (ADT) ranged from 900 to 15,000. The only problem in switching from one paint to the other was that the system had to be completely free of the previous paint. The appearance and durability of both paints were good. The reflectivity readings show that the white MSHD fast dry paint was brighter than the white waterborne fast dry paint, and the yellow waterborne fast dry paint was brighter than the yellow MSHD fast dry paint. Although the results of the study were inconclusive, it has shown that waterborne traffic paint can be used with confidence without any special equipment, special handling, or severe restrictions on the conditions required for stripping.
