Two sources of accident data were used to describe the accident experience of combination vehicles (tractor trailers) over a five-year period. The Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS), operated by the National Highway Safety Administration, and the highway accident data prepared by the Texas Department of Public Safety form the bases of this study. The accident experience of combination vehicles is contrasted to that of passenger cars throughout the report, and while the document is generally a straightforward presentation of facts from the two data sources, obvious trends and relationships are noted.
