Visual information is considered to be an important input-factor for participation in traffic, in particular for a driver of a motor vehicle. It is expected that there should be a relationship between the visual performance and the performance in traffic, and, therefore, a relationship between visual performance and accident rate. Accident studies have shown however that such a relationship is hardly ever mentioned. It is stressed that in any case the eye sight of the driver should be optimal. Many experienced drivers, in particular elderly drivers, do not have good vision and have a less than optimal vision performance.
