This document reports a research project on the use of computer-based tools for arrivals flow management at major airports. It describes in detail two experimental prototype tools which were constructed as part of the research project, and exercised in a real-time simulation environment. These were a Landing Order Calculator and a Speed Control Adviser. Both give advice to air traffic controllers for aircraft which are in the vicinity of their top- of-descent points. The underlying concepts and the methods used in the tools are fully described. The real-time simulation environment and the experience gained from it are discussed. Great Britain. (sw)
