Theory and operational aspects of the ELKORR program developed at DFVLR for orbit determination are described. Required orbit determination accuracies are specified for orbital maneuvers and tracking accuracies. The theory covers the weighted least squares method and the intended Kalman filter. Orbit perturbations are dealt with. The operational orbit determination is related to the Symphonie satellites.
