The purpose of this report is to provide a uniform guide to the development and design of various transit related roadway improvements. It is a technical document which reflects the current transit related factors which traffic engineers, architects, planners, and developers should consider during the design process for streets and highways, as well as residential, commercial, and industrial developments. The report covers several topic areas which include: design vehicle operating characteristics; roadway facilities; traffic control devices; park and ride lots; passenger shelters; bus stop design; handicapped transportation; and ridesharing considerations. Much of the information is also useful for school buses and other larger vehicles. In addition, the report identifies, by subject matter, the appropriate transit contact person to answer various transit related questions.
