The main objective of the study is to carry out an analysis of the present condition of the international airport of Managua, and prepare an airport development program to satisfy the growing passenger and air cargo demand that is expected at the airport, both that the present time and in the future. The study first presents an analysis of Nicaragua's economic situation. Next a study of the historical behavior of the airport's air traffic is made, with regard to both passengers and domestic and international cargo. On the basis of current volumes of passenger, air cargo and general aviation traffic, the Consultants prepared a development plan for immediate implementation. A demand versus airport capacity analysis was carried out. The benefits and drawbacks of relocating the airport or keeping it in its current location are analyzed. Finally, a financial analysis for carrying out the proposed projects is made, with a detailed evaluation of the possible income and expenditures of the airport and its institutional structure. The analysis establishes that it is economically feasible for the airport to finance the proposed projects in the development program under consideration using its own income.
