A C-131B aircraft was equipped with modified, instrumented main landing gear assemblies, and type III (low pressure), folding sidewall, 38.5/28 x 13.0-16 aircraft tires were mounted on the main landing gear wheels. Takeoffs, landings and taxi runs were made at four different aircraft weights and at both 35% and 50% tire deflection. Braking intensity varied from light to heavy both with and without reverse pitch. The test aircraft was equipped with an inflation/deflation system and the tires were deflated each time the landing gear was retracted and inflated each time it was extended. The tires could normally be deflated and folded within 15 seconds and reinflated within 10 seconds. Two rollouts were made with the test tires flat and the tires demonstrated excellent runflat capability at ground speeds of up to approximately 100 knots.
