Experimental and theoretical studies were conducted to determine the signal isolation top- and bottom-mounted VHF-UHF antennas on jet aircraft. A 1/4 scale conducting cylinder was used to simulate a Boeing 707 fuselage. Effects of the wings and other proturberances were neglected. Both blade and slot antennas were investigated. The natural phase relations which exist between electromagnetic waves diffracted around the aircraft fuselage were exploited to achieve isolations of 60-80 db between antennas mounted antipodally.
