A two volume coverage of parachute and decelerator technology involves many fields of interest. Volume 1 begins the discussions of devices, uses, and methodology. Equipment includes inflatable, supersonic, autorotor, and retro-rocket decelerators; and drag devices, fabrics, and mechanisms. Discussions are made of slow descent, descent dynamics, trajectories, shock, opening behavior, snatch forces, shroud line forces, flight testing, wind tunnel tests, and models. Applications include such varied operations as sonobuoy delivery, water movement tracking, and target drone retrieval. (This updated bibliography contains 98 abstracts, none of which are new entries to the previous edition.)
