The report consists of a number of articles on transportation in other countries prepared by several authors experienced in transportation and with strong research backgrounds on the transport activities in developed countries. It was believed desirable to investigate those lessons and opportunities that could be gleaned from the experiences gained by other developed countries in their transport sectors. Although comparability and transferability must be analyzed carefully, the opportunity appears to exist for the U.S. to benefit significantly through investigating and understanding both the successes and the failures of others in applying various national transportation policies.
