A new technique in remote control and monitoring of a solid-state instrument landing system (ILS) was evaluated at the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC) intended as a solution to problems caused by lightning and transients on phone lines and buried cables. The findings show the system effectively reduces or eliminates false transmitter cycling, erroneous status indications, and damage to the ILS equipment. (Author)
