A set of six core instruments was defined for the IOC model payload of the Columbus Morning Polar Platform. The synthetic aperture radar, the optical imager, the multifrequency imaging microwave radiometer, and the wind scatterometer were studied. The definition status of the instruments with respect to their basic electrical and mechanical design features, performance, resource requirements, mutual compatibilities, and their adaptability on the Columbus platform is summarized.
