These Proceedings include the Technical Evaluation Report, the Keynote Address, 20 papers and ensuing discussions from the Symposium sponsored by the AGARD Aerospace Medical Panel held in The Hague, The Netherlands from 24-28 October 1989. As the human operator is more and more clearly shown to be the limiting factor in the operational performance of modern aerospace systems, more and more rigorous selection criteria must be applied for psychological as well as medical selection of aircrew. This Symposium examined this problem from the point of view of human behaviour in high stress situations, specifically looking at incident and accident experience, personality traits, responses to stress and prediction of behavioural responses. These proceedings will be of interest to those involved with the psychological selection and/or assessment of aircrew. Keywords: Aircrews; Mental stress; Accidents; Psychological assessment; Response; Behaviour; Personality; Personnel selection; Emergencies; Performance human; Risk assessment response. (KT).
