Fifteen (15) various Army aircraft were examined to determine if a fire suppressant, void filler foam kit could be designed for each of them that would fill the void space surrounding the lower hemisphere of the fuel tank; thus reducing the susceptibility of the aircraft to fire from incendiary rounds. If the examination indicated that a kit was feasible, a kit was designed, fabricated, installed, and flight tested. No adverse flight characteristics were discovered with any of the foam kits installed. Each of the kits designed will serve the purpose for which it was intended. (Author)
