The report evaluates the United States' and government of Israel's cost estimates for Israel's fighter aircraft, the Lavi Israel is developing the Lavi to replace its aging U.S.-produced A-4 Skyhawks and Israeli-produced Kfirs. Thus far, it has been financed predominantly (over 90 percent or $1.3 billion) from U.S. assistance funds. There are significant differences between the U.S. and Israeli figures--$22.1 million versus $14.5 million per aircraft for flyaway costs, respectively. The report compares the two estimates, noting any substantial differences, and provide an assessment of their reasonableness.
