In an appendix of the ISTVS 6th International Conference Paper, A Synopsis of Tire Design and Operational Considerations Aimed at Increasing In-Soil Tire Drawbar Performance, the author developed a procedure for defining Ge, effective sand penetration resistance gradient. Ge was devised to approximate the value of G that predominated during a given tire pass, normalized to one type of frictional soil (selected as Yuma sand). Ge subsequently served as the soil strength term in sand-tire numeric Nse, which aimed at providing a normalized description of tire drawbar performance in different types of sands. Because the range of sand types included in the development of Ge and Nse was necessarily quite limited, the author suggested in the Synopsis paper that other investigators test the universality of relations involving Nse and tire drawbar performance by using tire test results obtained in a variety of sands.
