Recently, the European Space Agency (ESA) initiated studies for definition of a facility for simulation of space operations, involving space manipulators and other in orbit servicing and assembly systems. The European Robotic Operations Simulator (EUROSIM) shall be used in all system and operation development phases. Two parallel studies, funded and coordinated by ESA, have been performed: (1) Definition and planning of the facility; (2) Definition and planning of application software. The results of the second study, are presented. The definition of the requirements for the following items will be emphasized: (1) simulation definition and test control software; (2) overall system dynamic model; (3) generic models for the in-orbit infrastructure, including spacecraft, environment, and payload; (4) mathematical models for the space manipulator system. A survey of existing models and software completed the requirements study. A plan for further development was specified.
