The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) developed a public road information system framework for approximately $823,000. The Global Positioning System (GPS)/ITS framework allows: (1) Montana counties to use the data for the 911 emergency response systems; (2) Montana counties with road inventory data collection systems to utilize this data for validation and updating their systems; and (3) The Montana State Highway Patrol to use the data for the proof of concept of the Automated Vehicle Location system (AVL).
