Development of standards for vehicle communication networks is enabling the integration of performance data from various devices and sensors. This integration will provide systems developers the opportunity to provide value added information to help manage operating costs related to logistics, service and driver performance. This paper provides a perspective on the potential integration of safety related systems such as collision warning and drowsy driver components. A review of existing collision warning systems information is discussed. Planned or anticipated enhancements to be used for driver performance monitoring and accident reconstruction features are also addressed. Furthermore, the additional data that may be available when drowsy driver systems are introduced is discussed. Potential architectures for the combination of these safety systems and the integration of their respective data for additional performance monitoring capability are discussed. (7 pages)
