We study the effect of inter-vehicle communications and use simple models and simulations to evaluate various scenarios. Both highway systems and urban city driving cases are considered. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) and merging/lane changing scenarios are studied for highway systems. Stop-and-go operation and intersection safety are considered for in-city applications. A simple human driver model is used to represent the reactions of the drivers. A specially developed traffic simulator is utilised to simulate the proposed scenarios for various traffic flows.
