In order to set out the needs for safety and safety systems it is necessary to look at the types of electrical equipment and plant present. These are many and varied. They range from the incoming HV supplies, to airfield lighting (a technology in its own right and unique to this industry), computer systems and back up systems, low voltage installations to buildings and the infrastructure of the airport, passenger and baggage handling facilities, radar installations, communications systems not forgetting all the electrical equipment and plant associated with maintenance and repair facilities where provided.
