This paper investigates the behaviour of a spar buoy floating wind turbine, under irregular waves. Provides a thorough description of the geometrical and dynamic characteristics of the floating body, and the results in terms of the incident waves. Details concerning the modelling of the system are discussed, whereas numerical results obtained through the developed solution method in the frequency domain are presented. The simulation carried out with the computer code HAMVAB. The analysis for the mooring lines has been done by the code STATMOOR which is capable to handle the static analysis of extensible mooring lines made of several segments each of them with different geometrical properties and with attached submerged buoys along them. The motion dynamics of the floating arrangement together with the tensions on the mooring system have been taken to account. Also, the annual wind power of the 5MW wind turbine is presented.
