There has been a rapid reform in transportation modes to make it easy to travel from one place to another. Currenttransportation devices are confined to move in a particular direction with various steering controls. Ball balancing robotscan be used as means oftransportation using the concepts of self-balancing and moving in any direction at any instant. It uses an omni directional ball to move instead of conventional wheels which makes it compact and easy in movement in any direction. This paper focuses on design, concepts and mechanisms related to ball balancing robots which comes under the class of Ballbots. It works on the concept of inverted pendulum; therefore a person can operate it by just gently leaning in required direction while seated on the robot. This paper shows the design and concepts used to balance the system with different applications related to transportation.
