Numerical simulations of propagation near the zero dispersion wavelength demonstrate the value of all-optical regeneration using a local optical clock source, all-optical clock recovery, and one or more all-optical switches. Third-order dispersion (TOD) compensation further improves performance. We show the distortion due to uncompensated TOD at 100 Gb/s. We show the improvement possible using imperfect nonlinear optical loop mirror switches and all-optical regenerators every 200 km, with 50 km amplifier spacing.
