Use of modern technologies in the manufacture of vehicles are making them more reliable. However, the usefulness (availability) of the vehicles also depends upon how quickly it can be repaired if a fault occurs. The vehicles are always provided with general purpose monitoring instruments to indicate online status of the vehicles. Off-line diagnosing systems are also becoming available [2]. These systems address the issues of diagnosing general type of faults effectively. However, the vehicles are prone to faults which creep in gradually (incipient). This happens due to air/fuel system which either deteriorate gradually or suffer sudden obstruction. The first one is incipient while the other is termed transparent. In this paper, a system is developed to detect the transparent faults effectively for improved availability.
