This paper presents an advanced lumped parameter network (LPN) to predict thermal behavior of a fault-tolerant permanent-magnet (FTPM) motor. The key thermal parameters of the motor, such as equivalent thermal conductivity and convection heat transfer coefficients, have been analyzed and identified. Additionally, the thermal radiation of the motor is considered due to its high temperature gradient from frame surface to ambient medium. Last, the LPN results are compared with finite element method ones, verifying the effectiveness of the development LPN method.
