This is a sub-project of the University Social Responsibility (USR) Project for the practice site in the old district of Xinpu Township, Hsinchu County, Taiwan. For freshmen of Chung Hua University, it is also an experimental course. This hilly town is flooded with tourists on weekends but rarely inhabited during the week. Students who participate in the project apply their learned techniques to real situations and learn by doing. New use of pedestrian motion modeling is introduced in regional planning through visual accessibility prediction maps of towns. Studies have shown that the distribution of pedestrian movements is explained by spatial quantities representing the properties of the street network. Preliminary observations have identified three locations with the most activity. In addition, after socketing the pedestrian motion model, it is possible to preview the streets and places where conflicts between road users will occur.
